Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling McElroy Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give McElroy Service Experts a call at 308-210-4398 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
